I recently bumped into a client our company secured a property for a while ago, in some new location in Lagos. Initially I couldn’t put a face to the name until she showed me our company diary that was shared as a souvenir, during last year’s end of year customer appreciation package.
I find it difficult sometimes to recognizing some of our clients, because we have gained so much trust so that they don’t get to see me in person, before we seal deal with them. Some even contact us from abroad, and without getting to come physically we deliver without any reservation, and they are always amazed and full of appreciation when they come into the country, and eventually get to see their property.
This is what has prompted me to share with you an experience I had with one of our clients. I met her on this particular weekend shopping at Ikeja shopping mall. Even though I was so much in a hurry, because I had to dash off to another client’s function, she insist she would not let me go, until she shares with me her experience after acquiring a property from us a while ago.
This was her story in summary and paraphrased (you will pardon me, as I’m not a recorder… Lolz).
“My husband and I contacted your agency mid last year concerning acquiring a property in a modest area in Lagos, and we were shown a place. Initially we didn’t really like it, but after a while and advice from your company we eventually secured it, but we couldn’t think of living there, because we felt the environment was a bit of a suburb and lacked some social amenities. We also needed to do some renovation to the property. It wasn’t a very exciting buy, as we didn’t see it as meeting our taste.
But we got the shocker, when we learnt that the property was most strategically positioned as most businesses were starting to spring up in the area, to cut the long story short, barely 6 months after we made the purchase, the Lagos State Government renovated a major road that leading to the property, which linked two major commercial centres, this suddenly changed the fortune of the property from a modest to a choice estate. We were approached by 2 firms aside from other individuals who showed interest, to rent the whole property for 2 years. You can’t believe the lowest bidder was bidding for a price twice higher than the price we bought it!” As she related her story to this point, she almost jumped on me as if it was just happening. I had to keep reminding her to calm down been a public place, while she continued narrating this too good to be true story of hers.
After some pauses of excitement, she continued. “We are still basking in the euphoria, in fact most people still find it hard to believe this story, but who cares. What do we stand to gain by fabricating a story like this? We are actually planning a surprise visit to your company, but I couldn’t hold back seeing you today. And I hope my husband won’t be mad for letting out our little secret” (she giggled as she starts to take her leave).
This is just one of the many success stories and testimonies we get on a daily basis, and it has continually kept us going. Most of our new businesses in the last couple of years have come from referrals as against aggressive marketing associated with the real estate business.
What clients’ testimonies continually teaches us at Brilliant Concept, is to never relent in delivering excellence and quality. This is simply because we understand that nothing just happen by chance. The story told by the lady about how the construction of a road changed the fortune of their property was not a surprise to us. We put all factors into consideration, both negative and positive before getting a client a property.
When you do our due diligence in satisfying a client, they always come back happy and fulfilled. In real estate, a lot goes into getting property for a client, and you must be ready to put in the work, engaging your hindsight, insight and foresight in getting a property that will not lead to headache, and heartache for your client. If you don’t do a thorough job, it will come back to hurt you, and spoil your relationship with your client, thereby putting your reputation which is your most priced business currency at stake.
NB: Please note, mentioning of the name of this particular client, location and price of the property, among other details have been withheld in this article in order to respect the terms entered with her before sharing her story.
